I was fortunate to be a student during all the years Rogers played. I attended every game he played in Williams Brice. Carlen took George out of games when the outcome wasn't in doubt, not artificially padding his stats. It would be interesting to analyze how much he didn't play and still gained over 5,000 yards.
I was reminded of that going through some of the newspaper articles from those days. There were a number of games he sat out the entire second half! Pretty amazing.
Thanks so much for the reminder about the great Tommy Moody. I never met anyone who loved the Gamecocks as much as Tommy or someone who appreciated the history of Gamecock athletics like him. I spoke with him the day before he passed and it was one of so many wonderful conversations that I was blessed to have with him. I appeared on his show a couple of times, the last time we rehashed the greatest Carolina-Clemson football games. After we finished the taping, he said to me, "Mike, I think we could have talked forever." In Tommy, I found a kindred spirit who appreciated Gamecock sports history. Whenever we spoke, we both returned to most fondest memories of our childhood. Miss him greatly. Alan, thanks for the reminder and the encouragement to allow his legacy to live on and thanks for all you do to keep Gamecock sports memories alive.
Love this! What a tribute to Tommy!

Thanks, my friend. I felt the same about Tommy, and I appreciate you for many of the same reasons. Thanks, and best always.
