What a comprehensive piece this is! So much wonderful history--history, I will presume unknown to many, as it was to me. Mr. Piercy has such an ability to combine days of 'yore' to modern events.
And the writing style to 'light' up what might be considered 'mundane' by some---to the point
of feeling that one would wish that a 'time machine' existed---to whisk one back to the days described. The saying--"the more things change; the more they stay the same" -----resonates in this article. He describes the 'dawn' of the modern game --which we all get to see played out each week-end, of each brisk fall, since those early times. The fact that it illuminates the history of the University of South Carolina at the same time--is a major achievement. Thank you!
